Top five Jang Wonyoung moments

Jang Wonyoung is arguably one of the most popular Kpop idols that came out of Produce48, a spin-off of the Produce series where the goal is to create an idol group using the feedback of the show’s judges and most importantly, the televotes.

It can be recalled that Jang Wonyoung was one of the twelve girls who debuted in IZ*ONE, the Korean-Japanese girl group that was formed at the final episode of Produce48. While being a part of IZ*ONE, Jang Wonyoung was not only one of the vocalists but she also wrote the lyrics to “Dreamlike” and “With*One”. The former is a song from BLOOM*IZ, IZ*ONE’s debut album, while the latter is from IZ*ONE’s third EP, Oneiric Diary.

After IZ*ONE, Wonyoung redebuted as the center of IVE, a girl group by her home agency, Starship Entertainment. It was in IVE that she truly shined as the girl group she became a part of managed to hit #1 on the Korean Charts for single albums on every release that the group made (so far).

As a DIVE, here are my top five moments from Jang Wonyoung…

5. Jang Wonyoung’s Produce 48 audition

Every Kpop idol’s success story starts with an audition and it’s no exception that Jang Wonyoung’s journey as a Kpop idol also started with an audition. In this case, her Produce 48 audition which earned her a place in Produce48 as a contestant. Her audition video IS adorable to be honest, this is the Jang Wonyoung that we all know and love!

4. Jang Wonyoung’s ending fairy for LOVE DIVE

In Kpop stages, there is this term called “ending fairy” that refers to the final pose of each Kpop group’s members. This is one of the only time in a Kpop stage where EVERY Kpop group member is sure to get screentime and that’s why idol groups put as much effort on this as they do in their performances. It’s no surprise that Jang Wonyoung understood the assignment and gave us these memorable ending fairies from IVE’s LOVE DIVE era. There’s a reason why Wonyoung is the group’s center!

3. Jang Wonyoung’s La Vie En Rose fancam from her IZ*ONE days

Before IVE, there was IZ*ONE for Jang Wonyoung.

Now about this one, IZ*ONE was my first introduction to Jang Wonyoung when they debuted with the song “La Vie En Rose”. Wonyoung was the group’s center and this fancam proves why she deserved that role for IZ*ONE (and why it was correct for Starship Entertainment to let her be the center for IVE).

2. This entire compilation of Jang Wonyoung singing in English

If anyone asks whether or not Jang Wonyoung has the capability of being able to sing in English, or let alone sing, I would direct them to this compilation of her singing songs in English. If anything, this proves that Wonyoung really has talent – not just in terms of being a center or a visual but also in terms of singing. She even improvises in some parts of the compilation which is added bonus!

1. This snippet of Jang Wonyoung recording her part of “ELEVEN”

Yet another proof into the authenticity of Wonyoung’s vocals can be found in this footage of her recording her part of “Eleven” (IVE’s debut single) in the studio. Seeing this makes me want to see a solo Wonyoung track in a future IVE EP or Album. Wonyoung’s vocals need more appreciation, y’all!

Jang Wonyoung is truly a talented woman and it is my hope that Starship Entertainment would help her continue to realize her full potential. With IVE, they were already able to give her another chance to use her talents after IZ*ONE disbanded and it is only fair that they continue to give her their trust and support. For us who are her fans, I hope that we will be able to continue showing Wonyoung and her group, IVE, our support.
